It was 34 degrees outside Saturday morning, November 16, but it didn’t deter 15 Brownmed employees from spending eight hours during part of their weekend working on a Habitat for Humanity house in Spirit Lake, IA.
The 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom house is located in Lake Park, IA and will be ready by the end of February 2014.
“Honestly, I wish we could have been here all day,” said Ian Akyroyd, Maintenance Supervisor. “It’s amazing to see how much we can accomplish when we all work together. I’m happy to do this for a local family and proud to work for an organization whose employees would give so much of their free time to this cause.”
Helping Habitat for Humantiy is just one of several community projects Brownmed is a part of each year. They also host community blood drives, donate to the local food bank and adopt a family for the holidays.
“At Brownmed, we say that improving life is our passion,” said Tony Poncelet, VP of Finance. “That’s not just represented by the products we make, but also by how we give back and help in the community.”
Families must put in 400 hours of sweat equity towards the building of Habitat homes, working at least 20 hours per month.
